I personally like the white one better, but its your choice and they both are cute. I would tell your mom that theres no sense spending money on a dress that you don't truly love. Also say that you know that the red dress is "the one." Maybe compromise by saying you'll wear a camisole under it, but then on the night of the dance just don't say anything about the cami.
