If you think you have logic then HELP me!!!!!?

go to a private school, and I am in the 9th grade. This is the first year that we have had the opportunity to take an honors English cl. To get into this cl you must have an A in English in 7th and 8th grade. In 8th grade I had an A- English average. I would have had a high A but the teacher really pushed grammar. In the 7th grade I really did not try that hard because I did not think that it counted toward anything. I had an 80. I think that if I had really tried I could have gotten an A. I want to take honors English in the 9th grade because it is mainly a literature cl. Normally I would just take the normal cl but literature is one of my best subjects. My parents and friends think that if I go talk to the principle and explain my situation he might let me take honors English, but I feel a little stupid considering my grade in 7th grade was a B. So, do you think that if I go talk to the principle he might consider letting me take this cl? I really think that I can, but I feel like I have not truly earned it. Thanks!!!
