How do you deal with hating how you look?

OMG, I don't like the way I look. My friend's friend called me UGLY behind my back. I never liked that girl. LOL. But I like my friend and I don't think they're friends any more. I am like overweight (not obese xD) and like I DO NOT LIKE HOW I LOOK. People make fun of me, but I pretend like I think they are joking so I'm basically hiding my feelings. So, what I do is look at other people that are worse looking than me and think "Hm, at least I'm better than her/him" I feel that it is wrong to do that, but I can't help it because I don't like how I look.
